DOCX layout and PDF annotations
DOCX documents are imported into a browser document model. Text and supported formatting can be edited, but complex Word layouts, headers, and page positioning may change during import and export. Keep the original when exact layout matters.
Existing PDFs follow a different path: their pages remain PDF pages with added text notes or page changes. They are not converted into editable Word paragraphs, and scanned text does not become editable through OCR.
Example: a letter draft and a review copy
A text or DOCX letter can have an editable DOCX copy for later revisions and a PDF copy for sharing. The editable source and the final PDF serve different purposes; a PDF export is not a substitute for keeping the source.
Image editing here is limited to a caption overlay. Legacy DOC, Excel, and PowerPoint files are not supported inputs. Unsaved work in an open tab is not a durable backup.
